Organizing a tournament: sign-ups, formats and live scores

Petanque, football, cards or darts: the method to run a tournament from sign-up to final ranking, without stress.

6 min read

Odd number of teams, groups to draw, match sheets lying around and scores to copy out: a tournament quickly turns into a headache. Here is how to set it up from start to finish, from sign-ups to ranking, keeping a cool head.

1

Collect the teams' sign-ups

Whether solo players or teams, the first step is knowing who takes part. Sign-ups by message end up in a scattered list and duplicates.

Open sign-ups online: everyone signs up themselves, and your list of participants builds itself.

With Benevoo
  • Share a link or a QR code, individual or team sign-up
  • The sign-up list is ready to serve as the tournament's base

Choose the tournament format

Not every tournament plays the same way. The right format depends on your discipline, the number of teams and the time available. The choice is made at configuration, once the entrants are known.

No need to draw the bracket by hand on a sheet taped to the wall.

With Benevoo
  • Nine formats: single or double elimination, round robin, Swiss system, groups with or without knockout, card tournament, time trial and rally
  • The format is chosen at configuration, from the sign-up list
3

Generate the bracket automatically

Composing the groups and the bracket by hand is long and error-prone. The module handles it from the sign-up list.

All you have to do is enter the scores as you go, and the bracket advances on its own.

With Benevoo
  • The tournament bracket is generated automatically from the sign-up list
  • You enter the scores, the rest of the bracket updates

Spread the matches across the courts

Two courts, four, six? The number of available courts changes the whole flow. Best to set it once so the matches organize accordingly.

You avoid downtime and empty courts while others wait.

With Benevoo
  • Number of courts configurable
  • Matches spread across the available courts
5

Enter the scores and follow live

On tournament day, everything moves fast. Entering scores on a phone, at the edge of the court, avoids lost sheets and recopying.

And meanwhile the crowd is not left in the dark: they follow the tournament's progress from their own phone.

With Benevoo
  • Live score entry, from a phone
  • Your spectators follow the matches in real time from theirs
6

Publish the ranking and results

At the end, everyone wants to know who won. A clear ranking, available right away, closes the tournament cleanly.

And an exportable record serves you for the prize-giving as well as for the committee's archives.

With Benevoo
  • Ranking and results available live
  • Ranking and results exportable
